Mole Evaluation in Bellevue, WA

Woman closely inspecting skin mole with magnifying glassMoles are incredibly common, and in most cases, harmless. These small clusters of pigmented cells can appear anywhere on the body and often develop during childhood or early adulthood. But changes in a mole’s appearance, size, or feel can indicate something more serious. At Bauman Dermatology in Bellevue, WA, our providers offer skilled evaluation and treatment for all types of moles, helping you protect your skin and your health.

What Exactly Is a Mole?

Moles, also known as nevi, form when melanocytes (the skin cells responsible for pigment) grow in concentrated patches. Healthy ones can range in color from similar to the rest of your skin to much darker and may be flat, raised, smooth, or rough. Some moles stay the same for decades.

It’s not unusual for new moles to appear, especially through your twenties. However, changes in adulthood should be monitored closely. Our team, which includes Dr. Carla Bauman, Dr. Reid Masters, Amanda Norton, DNP, ARNP, DCNP, and Vio Mirza, RN, BS, takes skin changes seriously and offers thorough, evidence-based care.

When Should a Mole Be Checked?

It’s a good idea to examine your skin regularly and schedule an appointment if you notice any changes. We recommend using the ABCDEs of melanoma as a guide:

  • Asymmetry: One half looks different from the other
  • Border: Irregular, jagged, or blurred edges
  • Color: Multiple shades or an unusual hue
  • Diameter: Larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser)
  • Evolving: Changes in shape, size, or color over time

Other danger signs include itching, bleeding, or a sore that doesn’t heal. While most moles are benign, these symptoms may point to something more serious, like atypical nevi or skin cancer.

Evaluation and Treatment Options

When you visit Bauman Dermatology, we use dermoscopy and other non-invasive tools to examine moles in detail. If a mole looks suspicious or has changed since your last visit, we may recommend a biopsy. This involves removing a small sample or the entire mole to examine it under a microscope.

If removal is necessary, we do it in our Bellevue, WA, office with minimal downtime. Whether you want a mole removed for medical or cosmetic reasons, our team ensures the process is as comfortable and efficient as possible.

Your Skin, Your Confidence, Your Safety

Skin health is more than just appearance. It’s about prevention, awareness, and proactive care. At Bauman Dermatology, we want all our patients to understand the difference between normal skin changes and those that require a closer look.

If you’ve noticed a new mole or changes in an existing one, we’re here to evaluate and guide you through your next steps. Schedule a visit with our experienced team in Bellevue, WA, by calling (425) 455-3376.
